Jenny Jackson

I am a composer (yikes)

Comes a time… Greetings from your new blogger (she doesn’t look too happy about it).

ImageTo coincide with the launch of the general ‘going live’ ness of Platform 4 – contemporary composers‘ YouTube and Vimeo accounts (, I have been positively encouraged to start a blog of my own. Blogging is a bit new-fangled for me but I am happy to give it a go. This should mean a constant updating of my compositional endeavours… If there is a break in the flow, so-to-speak, that probably means I’m struggling to endeavour.

Check out the aforementioned Vimeo and YouTube sites to see performances of my compositions (and those by fellow Platform 4 composers), including our recent Brandenburg / Contemporary Works concerts and the results of our collaboration with sculptor Gillian Brent, plus some from other concerts we’ve done. There are only a few videos up at the moment but they are growing all the time! Be sure to click ‘subscribe’…

This one is worth a laugh:

You can hear more examples of my (more serious?!) work on my soundcloud page: and my myspace page:

Or you can read my biography and see my list of works on my website:

And there is always the Platform 4 official website:

There: now you know what I do. More anon… (next time will be easier).

Jenny Jackson is a composer of acoustic instrumental and vocal work. She is strongly influenced by a long-term interest in the visual and dramatic arts and often chooses to exploit the visual aspect of musical performance in her concert pieces. She has developed this to create two fully staged pieces of music theatre and has collaborated to produce multidisciplinary projects with visual artists, sculptors, writers and choreographers. She is a member of Platform 4 composers - a composer collective based in Sheffield.
